Palin Gives Time A Few Minutes of Her Time About Its False ‘Reporting’

Posted on: February 14th, 2011
The media is so sure that only the worst about Palin could possibly be true that false stories, out right lies, and even comedy bits are constantly presented as actual news. Time Magazine is the latest to fall into that trap by reporting a satirical Internet posting about Sarah Palin as hard news. It all [...]

Palin Derangement Syndrome Prevents Bristol’s Appearance at University

Nothing says “academic freedom” like kowtowing to a few hundred students who signed up for an anti-Palin Facebook page: Anger over a decision to pay Bristol Palin several thousand dollars in student fees to talk to Washington University students about abstinence led to a decision Thursday night to nix Palin’s appearance on a panel here [...]

Palin Family Moves: 2010 SarahPAC Report, Bristol Moves to Arizona

Posted on: January 27th, 2011

The Palin family has been working hard all year and it is paying off.   Going “private” to stop the nuisance lawsuits from the Democratic party while she was governor was the wisest thing Sarah Palin could do.  Despite the fact that she gets criticism for being a “quitter,”   she outfoxed the trial attorneys who would have bankrupted her or worse.  She has a Fox News contract, a reality TV show, books, speaking fees, and her political action committee.

Bristol, meanwhile, is making good use of her “15 minutes” of fame.  She is moving to a new life in Arizona and leaving a lot of the sadness behind.

Good for her.

Politics Daily:

After bringing in $279,000 during the final six weeks of last year, Sarah Palin’s political action committee’s total fundraising for 2010 topped $3.5 million, according to a financial disclosure filed Wednesday with the Federal Election Commission.

Nearly all the money raised by SarahPAC from Nov. 23 to Dec. 31 came from individual donors — mostly in amounts less than $200, The New York Times reported. Of 600 itemized donations, only eight were for $1,000 or more, the newspaper said.

SarahPAC spent about $2.6 million last year, leaving about $1.3 million in the bank for 2011.

Politico pointed out that Wednesday’s FEC filing betrayed no signs that Palin is gearing up for a White House run. She’s hired no new staff and the PAC’s expenses aren’t close to campaign-ready levels.

Mix 96.9 in Phoenix, Arizona  is offering Bristol – the single mom most recently celebrated as a finalist on Dancing With the Stars — a slot as co-host on the station’s morning show. The current host said he and others met with the 20-year-old last week.

“She seemed like a really nice person,” Mix 96.9 a.m. host Mathew Blades told ABC15 in Phoenix. “The ball is in her court, but she seems interested.”

Bristol recently bought a five-bedroom house in Maricopa, Ariz., and told the Palin family’s favorite Alaska talk show hosts at The Bob & Mark Show that she loves the new place (especially this time of year, we bet).

“It made Dancing With the Stars worth it, for sure,” she said of paying $172,000 in cash for the house.

Apparently, she’s also trying to get her son Tripp’s father, Levi Johnston, to relinquish his parental rights so she can change Tripp’s last name to Palin and Johnston can quit paying child support. Bristol said she’d allow Johnston visitation rights with his 2-year-old son, though.

In addition to talking on the radio, perhaps for a living, Bristol has been invited to bring her abstinence talk to Washington University in St. Louis as part of the school’s “Sexual Responsibility Week” in early February. The school’s student union is budgeting $20,000 for a keynote event featuring Bristol.   Outed by her mom as a pregnant 17-year-old during the 2008 presidential race, Bristol earns between $15,000 and $30,000 talking about abstinence to youth groups.

Breaking: Anchorage Police say Todd Palin is NOT Connected to Prostitute Scam

Posted on: January 25th, 2011

While all the nation fixated on President Obama’s [schizophrenic??] State of the Union address, the Anchorage police department was doing some truth-telling and some SLAM-DUNKING of a recent report by the National Enquirer that there was “police evidence” that Todd Palin was involved with an Anchorage prostitute ring during the 2008  presidential campaign.   Scroll down for updates.

Countdown to a National Enquirer retraction….but I suppose the Palins would have to ASK for one first…..Since the National Enquirer is well-known for exhaustively researching a story before running one about someone of such stature as Sarah Palin….we have to wonder what discussion is going on over at the editor’s desk right now…..

As they say,  this is DEVELOPING………….However, this attempt to “bury” this story in the SOTU coverage…..really reeks of MSM business as usual.   Slime the conservative morning noon and night…..bury the retraction on a busy news day.  SO TYPICAL.

From TMZ:Cops: Palin Has NO Connection to Prostitute Ring

0125_todd_palin_BN

The APD released a statement explaining they did seize evidence in a massage parlor sting operation — but none of the evidence showed any sort of link between a massage therapist named Shailey Tripp and Todd Palin.

The APD also claims the National Enquirer published their story without ever contacting officials to check their facts.

UPDATE:   The National Enquirer isn’t retracting (yet) but posts these excerpts from the police report:

LATEST UPDATE 1/25/11 : posted 9:15 PM EST
The Anchorage Police Department have issued the following press release:  Shailey Tripp Investigation APD #10-1823

The Anchorage Police Department investigation and arrest of Shailey Tripp has recently been mischaracterized in internet blogs and in a National Enquirer article. Several errors regarding the investigation and arrest were reported in the Enquirer article (printed and internet versions):

  • None of the physical evidence examined by police showed any connection to Wasilla resident Todd Palin and his name did not appear in any of the records seized by APD.
  • The investigation of the prostitution operation was initiated by Anchorage Police Department’s Vice Unit responding to internet advertisements, not through information developed from any tips or other persons.
  • No rolodex was seized and taken into evidence.
  • The National Enquirer has not contacted Anchorage Police Department Public Affairs Unit to fact check its story so their reported “call to Anchorage Police Department” could not have been returned.
  • Bloggers” have had no access to the evidence seized so their linking of evidence in police custody to any other person is incorrect.

About “Blood Libel”

Posted on: January 14th, 2011

Is ‘Blood Libel’ Offensive To Jews?

Or Just Another Faux Attack Of Sarah Palin?

By Dell Hill

I’m not Jewish.  I’m Catholic.  I’m also a member of the Fourth Degree, Knights of Columbus.  That’s probably not a good excuse, but it’s a good reason why the use of the term “blood libel” never struck me as offensive to anyone, much less my Jewish colleagues and friends.  When this whole hubbub about blood libel surfaced I was concerned about it’s connection to Judaism and certainly wanted to learn its true meaning, and therefore educate myself so as not to be offensive to Jews, or anyone else, for that matter.

Although few in numbers, Jews have been my classmates and good friends since grade school and even though I knew very little about their religious beliefs, I respected those differences and went about my business, just as they did.  I know for a fact that at least a few of my FaceBook friends are Jewish and, undoubtedly, a few Jews are reading this post at this very moment.  That’s great, but I honestly don’t think you’re reading because your Jewish and I’m Catholic.  You’re reading because you want to know what I have to say.  Our religions have nothing to do with it.

Blood libel painting from Middle Ages

In this thirst for knowledge I’ve researched the definition of ‘blood libel’ and read a variety of interpretations as to its use over time.  Perhaps the fairest and most reasonable response to this current ballyhoo was delivered by David Harsanyi in this posting from Town Hall:  (Emphasis added)

“Wasn’t it moving to see progressive tweetdom and punditry unite in the defense of Jewry — in the Middle Ages? As a member of this most oppressed minority, I personally want to thank you.

After all, how dare she? The media are so sick and tired of Sarah Palin’s shtick (that’s one of the words we use in private) that they created a stampede to Wikipedia to quickly figure out just how divisive this “blood libel” thing, whatever it means, could be to American discourse.

Now, just for the record, we Jews haven’t been using the blood of gentile kids for our baking needs in at least a couple of decades, but in historical terms, blood libel refers to false accusations that Jews were murdering children to use their blood in religious rituals — and an excuse for anti-Semitism. It was heavily utilized in the Middle Ages by some Christians and, with a few modifications, is a regular smear in the Muslim world today.

Jeremy Ben-Ami, president of Israel antagonists at J Street (an outfit that USA Today accidentally referred to as “a political organization for Jews and supporters of Israel”), spoke for hundreds when he claimed that “the term ‘blood libel’ brings back painful echoes of a very dark time in our communal history when Jews were falsely accused of committing heinous deeds” and demanded that Palin “retract her comment, apologize and make a less inflammatory choice of words.”

 Really? Memory? Inflammatory? Painful echoes?

Jews, well, we can be offended like it’s 1257.

If blood libel is really a distasteful parallel, it is only because we have intimately familiarized ourselves with the idea through a History channel documentary about the crusades.  And if our institutional memories make us so thin-skinned, there are far more tangible reminders of genocide when we hop into our fancy German cars (which we do a lot, because we’re in charge of everything).  Or it is certainly as offensive as the heinous deeds of Sarah Palin, which include, among many other transgressions, talking.

And as Jim Geraghty of National Review helpfully noted, the term “blood libel” has been used many times by pundits and journalists from both sides of the ideological divide, including the esteemed Frank Rich of The New York Times, over the years.

Liberal Alan Dershowitz, as sensitive as they come to anti-Semitism (both real and imagined), said in a statement that “there is nothing improper and certainly nothing anti-Semitic in Sarah Palin using the term to characterize what she reasonably believes are false accusations that her words or images may have caused a mentally disturbed individual to kill and maim. The fact that two of the victims are Jewish is utterly irrelevant to the propriety of using this widely used term.”

Perhaps the greatest fear among liberals in this land is that someone like Sarah Palin might ascend to the presidency.  She is hated, literally.  Despised with a passion.  It doesn’t matter what she says or does; it’s wrong….and they will go out of there way to attack her.  They have reached the point where the use of metaphors is no longer proper, but they don’t hesitate to use nearly the exact same metaphors in their own speech!  If the woman (quite properly) clubs a fish to death, she’s skewered by every left-wing fanatic as though she were clubbing her own child.  If she shoots and kills a caribou for her families meat locker, she’s depicted as a murdering wench who actually enjoys the “kill”.  Anything and everything she does is twisted into some evil act in an all-out effort to eliminate her from moving up the political ladder.

While I don’t agree with everything Sarah Palin says or does, I most certainly don’t agree that any of us has the right to denigrate her solely to advance a political agenda, and that’s exactly what’s happening.

For the record:  I strongly support Israel’s right as a sovereign nation to exist without fear of ANY violent attack from ANY other nation or entity.  If left alone, Israel is an extremely peaceful nation of people.  If antagonized to their limit, the Israelis can instantly become a devastating force to be reckoned with.  A lesson that has apparently never been learned by those who dare ‘poke and prod’ until the Israelis retaliate, and their retaliation is almost always definitive.

From a military standpoint, I would stand and serve in defense of Israel almost as quickly as I’d stand in defense of the United States.  And I firmly believe that most Americans would do the same.  I’m also intelligent enough to know that those who disagree with my line of thinking do so vehemently.  People aren’t wish-washy when it comes to Jews and Israel.  There is either strong support or strong opposition.  Very little in between.

For the past 65 years I’ve lived in peaceful harmony with a number of Jewish friends — some of them dear friends.  To the best of my knowledge, not one of them has ever caused me personal harm, nor has any one of them flown a passenger jet filled with hundreds of innocent people into a skyscraper full of thousands of innocent people!  I haven’t noticed any of my Jewish friends involved in any effort to destroy the fabric of the United States of America and while we continue to have totally different religious views and beliefs, we coexist in peaceful harmony.

It troubles me greatly that I can’t say the same for others with different religious beliefs.

The bottom line?  Sarah Palin used a  term as a metaphor — blood libel — in defense of  an attack on her as being responsible for murder.  Some are incensed at the use of that term.  Others, not so much.  When all is said and done I believe we’ll discover the real motive for such faux indignation — and it’s 100% personal and political.

Palin: Maximum “Sarah Saturation” Begets the “Hillary of the Right”

Posted on: January 14th, 2011

It is time for Sarah Palin to sit quietly for awhile,  at least a few weeks, and let others defend her.   It is time for her to let things “settle” in Tucson, because the shooting had nothing to do with her. This is not turning the other cheek that I speak of, it is to let the opposition find something else by not giving them anything more.   Every single “slight” that is published against her does not require a response from Sarah Palin FacebookCentralCommand.   It is more statesmanlike to remain silent.  She can deny credibility to the negativists by simply… failing… to acknowledge them.

Her lengthy video this week on Facebook was not faulty in its content, even in its reference to “blood libel,” a term which is usually saved for more egregious hurts against Jews.   Jewish leaders defend her.  Good for them, but that does not make the video a “good idea.”  What’s done is done, but please be quiet now.

Rabbi Schmuley Boteach, Wall Street Journal:

“Sarah Palin has every right to use” that expression since, as that rabbi put it, it “may be used whenever an amorphous mass is collectively accused of being murderers or accessories to murder.”  She and Tea Party activists had been so accused.”

Paul Mirengoff :

Palin…..“might have been better advised not to speak at length about the massacre, knowing that Obama was giving to do so, and quite likely in a boffo way. But again, this goes to her political prudence, not the propriety or quality of her remarks.

 Gay Patriot:

In fighting back against the slights she has suffered from the mainstream media, Sarah Palin has proven herself to be a resilient presence on our national stage.  She has helped rally conservatives and defend our ideas.  But, she hasn’t, in the past eighteen months, demonstrated the qualities which initially drew John McCain’s attention to her, her ability to rise above the fray and govern in the public interest.

To be sure, today she lacks the public office she held from 2006-2009.  But, to appear statesman-like, she should trust to new media to expose the attacks from their older counterparts.

Sarah Palin has succeeded as a conservative celebrity, but in so doing, has become less presidential than she was when she first catapulted onto the national stage.

I agree with Debra Saunders who asks, is there an  “off” button on Sarah Palin?”

“The sorry [video] episode confirmed the suspicion that Palin is addicted to getting attention, while her boosters are addicted to defending every thoughtless utterance she releases. And even her boosters know what most Republicans know: Palin is not a serious thinker.

It always makes me sad to think about what Palin might have been. What if, knowing she might be chosen, she had done a better job of preparing to be a presidential running mate? What if John McCain had not asked her to join the GOP ticket? What if she had entered the spotlight without having her personal life smeared on the Internet?”

I don’t agree with Charles Krauthammer at ALL that Barack Obama’s Tucson speech was a game-changer for his image, in fact, I believe most of America could “see through” the pep-rally cheers and matching tee-shirts draped over chairs, and was offended by the self-promotional-while-appearing-to-be-self-effacing president. Obama is a master at election optics.  He figuratively piled up six dead bodies and used them as props.

That said, I do agree with Krauthammer that Sarah Palin has become the “Hillary Clinton” of the right:

“Palin finds herself in a political situation “a lot like Hillary was in [during] the late ’90s,” Krauthammer explained. “A very strong constituency among liberals, in Hillary’s case, but then very high negative among people who are not her fans.” He went on to say the media has contributed “enormously” to this and Palin has handled it “reasonably” well, “but when you have that much opposition, it is impossible to overcome that.”

Krauthammer said he had hoped Palin would have spent the last two years delving into policy instead of launching a media campaign, no matter how “dull” it may seem. Unfortunately she has not, which is a negative to people who are neutral towards her.”

In retrospect, I believe very strongly that Sarah Palin did her political career a disservice by agreeing to be the vice presidential nominee in 2008.  She would have done better to serve out her term, while continuing to gain stature with her policies and political victories within her state.

That said, her role as an inspirational conservative cheerleader is perfect for her and to support other candidates.  Her choice to do lighter-weight activities, such as “reality television” rather than something with more gravitas, will give fodder to  her opponents within and outside her party.

Using her prominence and her social media presence for policy and think pieces would be more of a help to her political career than micro-burst reactions to what shows up in each 12-hour media cycle.

There is a role for Sarah Palin.  It may not be what she secretly expects for herself now.  She is young and has many years ahead, in which certain memories and images of her will be replaced by others.  Which memories and images will become legacy will be determined by her own life choices and cannot be blamed on others.  Thus, she should choose wisely and slowly and be ready to cheerfully adjust when a wrong turn is taken.

For now, Sarah Palin shouldn’t “push” so much. She should recognize that there is such a thing as  “saturation” point and she’s there.

Silence is a legitimate response. Try it.

Sarah Palin Email Hacker Gets Jail Time

Posted on: January 14th, 2011

By Abraxas

David “Popcorn” Kernell just began a one year prison sentence today after having been found guilty of hacking into Sarah Palin’s email account in 2008.

 http://www.knoxnews.com/news/2011/jan/13/convicted-palin-hacker-david-kernell-prison-camp-k/

He will serve the time at a minimum security prison in Ashland, Kentucky.  The news release said he could get out early if he exhibits ‘good behavior’.

Frankly, I’m surprised at him serving any prison time at all.  After having been found guilty last April of “unauthorized access to a protected computer and destroying records to impede a federal investigation”, the judge in this case went dead silent about sentencing.  That gave me the chills because I’d feared it was due to David’s powerfully connected dad working to cut a deal so that his little kid would never actually pay for what he did.

Little David must have thought the same thing as well because whenever he emerged from court last year with his lawyer, the pictures always showed him with a smirk on his face.  Obviously he must have thought hacking into Palin’s email and broadcasting her password to the world so that every lunatic on this planet could access her private information was just a ‘prank’ (as his lawyer phrased it).  The kid also must have figured that his daddy’s position as State Representative of Tennessee (plus being chairman of the House Government Operations Committee) would ensure that the judge would yawn at the verdict and maybe suspend the kid’s driver’s license for about two weeks, etc.

Man, I would have loved to have been in that courtroom the moment the judge told the kid he’d be doing time.  For sure, that must have popped little David’s ‘kernel’ to hear that.

Well, now he’s in prison where he belongs.  I know it’s just a slap on the wrist being incarcerated in a jail that looks more like Club Med – but the point is that the kid is actually paying for what he did.  Also remember that, barring a formal pardon, he is a convicted felon for life.  Who knows?  Maybe in a few years, the realization that he will never shake that off his resume might just actually take that smirk off his face.
